The entryway is probably one of the hardest areas to keep tidy and organized. With everyone coming and going, dropping everything at the door is quite common especially at the end of a long workday or after-school sports and activities.

Combat the drop zone and conquer clutter by giving items a home or defining new zones. Try using some of these tips and functional products to help get your entryway sorted.

CHARGING STATION

I love a good charging station. They come in all shapes and sizes. The best ones hide the cords or have shorter charging cords to eliminate tangling. This is a great option to store multiple devices - and everyone knows where the electronics are.

HOOKS & THINGS THAT HANG

Use vertical space and install multiple rows of hooks. Hang your bags, sports gear, light jackets, hats, umbrellas, and even Fido's leash all in one place!

Remember to swap out seasonal jackets, shoes, and other weather gear.

INCOMING MAIL

Designate one place to catch all incoming mail by using a vertical mail sorter. Label each slot with daily incoming mail. Categories: Daily |Bills | Magazines | News, Coupons & Store Circulars.

For those of you that don't sort every day – daily at the top allows you to catch mail in one place and then sort at a later time.

SHOES

Shoes are my family’s biggest nemesis! They love to keep what they wear weekly by the door, which can get messy on any given day.

To combat the shoe pile-up, limit the shoe numbers per family member. Store your current season by the door using a boot tray near or under a bench. Or make use of metal baskets in a hall closet.

Pet Stuff

Designate a spot for your furry friends' much-needed gear for walks – hang the leash, disposable bags, and small treat dispensers on hooks or gather in a basket.

Keep their food-related items nearby in the pantry or small closet. Sort your categories and store food or treats in lidded airtight pet food bins. Sort medication and grooming in stacking bins or baskets. Label with each pet’s name if you have multiples.

Sometimes we need a catch-all area to keep the small things, like keys, sunglasses, spare change, etc. Use a small tray on top of stacking drawers, shelves, or countertop, you'll have one place for these odds and ends.

Command Center

For those of you over-achievers, think about creating a command center. If you like the idea to keep one space for important notes, a calendar, and other reminders for the whole family to see – create one. It's a great use of vertical wall space. It may need monthly upkeep but for some families – it works great!
